Chapter 14 Escape

On the upper level of the spaceport was a shopping mall. It was not unusual to have this mall filled with people from every corporation in the galaxy. As travelers came to Anteagen, they wanted to blend in. So, shopping with money from other corporations was not only accepted but expected.

They bought a couple of changes of clothes for each of them and a carry-on bag for each. They went to the bathroom to change. Rick made sure that he had the datapad, phone, the jamming disk given to him by Hobbs, the money, and IDs.

While Rick had on street clothes, he thought it would be better if he changed anyway. He knew that he was on the cameras in the hospital parking lot. So, if anyone was looking for them, he would not be in the same clothes.

First things first, Rick grabbed Bannic and went to one of the public computer terminals. Grabbed one of the IDs at random. And stuck it in. "What is the homeworld of Pulse Biotech?"

"Regin is the homeworld of The Pulse Biotech Corporation. It has a...."

“Stop. When is the next ship leaving for Regin?”

"The Argus is the next ship making several stops, including Regin."

"When is the next shuttle docking with the Argus leaving the spaceport?"

“The next shuttle leaving for the Argus is scheduled for departure in forty-five minutes.”

“Where is the gate for that shuttle?”

“Docking Bay 14.”

“Computer off.” Rick took Bannic a distance away from the computers. “Okay, here’s the plan. I want you to go to Docking Bay 14. Buy a ticket to Regin and be on that shuttle. It’s better if we don’t buy the tickets at the same time. I’ll meet you on the Argus. Right now, I have things to handle to cover our tracks.” Rick handed Bannic the money that went with his ID. Then turned and left him behind.

Rick went back to the computers. “Where are the nearest storage lockers?”

A map was displayed. “Follow the map, two left turns and a right.”

“Computer off.”

As Rick walked to the lockers, he wondered if he could trust Bannic. He had a fake ID and enough money to go wherever he wanted. Somehow, he didn't feel like that would happen. Because his personality had been wiped clean. He had a childlike quality that trusted Rick. He also said back in the hospital that he would do anything to help Rick for helping him. Well, he would know soon enough.

Maybe it was just Rick being paranoid. Because of what he now knew, he felt like he had every right to be paranoid.

Once he made it to the storage, he found out that renting a locker would cost fifty credits. He took out one of the IDs, opened a locker, and put in everything he was not taking. He then pulled out seven of the IDs and opened seven other lockers. Rick put the ID he used to open the locker in that locker with one or two of the items that he was leaving behind.
